Kelly Kelly, Melina and Eve Torres Talk Women's Royal Rumble Match, Missing the Business, Paving the Way for Future Women, More

Kelly Kelly, Melina and Eve Torres were the guest of Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia.

During the episode, the three former WWE Superstars talked about the imminent Women's Royal Rumble Match, missing the business and more.

Below are some highlights:

Eve Torres:

Torres mentions that she’s been retired for nearly five years now, and it’s really amazing to her how much the business of professional wrestling stays with you, even after you retire. She doesn’t feel like she’s been retired that long at all, and it’s almost as if she could just walk backstage at any point, put on her gear and go work a match.

She admits that she got emotional when she heard about the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match. This match obviously means a lot to the women involved in the match, but it also means a lot to the women who worked for years to make sure that this would happen someday.

She points out that she dealt with a lot of frustration when she worked at WWE. She wanted the women to have a larger role in the storylines during that time and although she pleaded for that, her requests would always hit a wall. She admits that those deaf ears played a part in her deciding to retire.

Torres goes on to say that life on the road is very difficult on your body. It makes sense to live that lifestyle during one period of your life, but at other points it doesn’t make any sense at all. As she got older and wanted to pursue other things in life, it made sense for her to step away from WWE.

Kelly Kelly:

Kelly informs that she had a feeling when Stephanie came out that night on RAW that she was going to make an announcement about a Women’s Royal Rumble. When that finally happened, Kelly couldn’t be any happier for all of the women on the current roster.

She felt that the roster of women that WWE had during her era had an opportunity to do groundbreaking things like this, but those opportunities simply didn’t arise. It was frustrating back then as a woman, because you’d be given four minutes to work with for your matches. She thought they all made the best of that situation and were still able to make an impact on the shows.

She admits that she does miss performing. She misses that feeling of walking through the curtain and seeing all of the fans, but she’s not sure if she’d be able to return to the company at this point because the travel is very tiring.

Garcia asks Kelly if there’s one woman on today’s roster who she really enjoys watching. Kelly informs that she’s very entertained by Paige. She thinks Paige is an amazing performer and she loves the relationship that Paige has with the fans.

Melina

Melina informs that it’s amazing to her how the fans respect her time in the business now, given that she was such a hated heel during her WWE run.

She points out that everyone wants to be cheered and portraying a heel is actually somewhat of a self-sacrifice. Over time she became much more comfortable with being a heel, but she still longed to be a babyface so she could do more exciting moves in the ring. After being a babyface for a little while, she realized that being a heel was a much better role for her.

Of all the Women on the current roster, Melina informs that she really likes the work of Charlotte, Alexa Bliss and Asuka. She says that she doesn’t really miss working for WWE. She cherishes what she accomplished in the business and she has nothing left to prove.
