A lot of times, the writers of the program get the blame for things by the audience, so it’s always interesting to see a former writer weigh in on topics like this. Former writer Tom Casiello tweeted that he was both overjoyed and disappointed at the current direction of the WWE women’s product. Casiello was previously employed as a creative writer with WWE from 2011 through 2016:
I am SO proud of WWE for investing so much in their women’s divisions...— Tom Casiello (@tommiecas) October 17, 2018
...and I’m also SO grateful they regurgitated YET ANOTHER “women can’t be successful unless they sleep their way to the top” promos, to remind us how much work still needs to be done. #BothThingsCanBeTrue
After first getting into a social media battle over who the ‘DNB’ was, Ronda Rousey definitely got a lot of talk surrounding her WWE Evolution match with Nikki Bella after the promo. Time will tell if this is the good kind of controversy or if it’s too much of a regression for the women.
